RADIATION ENGINEER / RADIATION EXPERT

Radiation engineer shall manage a cross-linked analysis that takes into account the radiation tolerance of EEE components that are used in electronic equipments and instruments, being themselves part of a complete space system.

On top of this, radiation engineering shall address various area of expertise (see example of diagram here below): radiation space environment, modelling and calculation, electronics, physics, radiation testing…

All of tasks there can therefore not be handled by a unique radiation engineer. A t present, CRISA radiation engineering skills are split mostly according to heritage and/or according to the core knowledge of the engineering group hosting them. Physical design engineering is in charge of radiation shielding modeling and analysis, EEE parts engineering is in charge of evaluation and acceptance, and definition of needed additional radiation testing, electronics design engineering performs the analysis of effects at circuit and electronics equipment performance level.

A s a consequence, the current CRISA need of "radiation engineer" will not intend to cover all the areas of expertise depicted here above: the “radiation engineer” we are defining will be in charge of fulfilling the following tasks of the radiation process.

This Radiation Engineer shall in addition be the responsible for the coordination of all the other engineering analysis (shielding and circuits analysis), and their final demonstration through the Equipment Radiation Analysis document.

Preferred area of expertise most relevant for Radiation Engineer function in support to electronics equipment development:

Analysis of radiation environment specification for programs

Analysis of available radiation test data of each EEE part (RVT, SEE tests, …), acceptability for the program requirements, definition of additional radiation tets, reduction of test data

Review and negociation of program requirements possibly with customers

Preparation of equipment Radiation analyses, review of WCA from the radiation point of view, review of FMECA.

Writing of radiation related justification file for equipment level RFD/RFW

Support to program for radiation testing solutions

Based on his/her outstanding knowledge and skills in radiation, he/she is accountable for cultivating his expertise by closely following latest developments in radiation area advising and proposing orientation for radiation related decisions in programmes, R&D and strategic areas, disseminating his/her knowledge throughout the Company. A continuous coordination and exchange of knowledge with other centers of ASTRIUM will be an important part of the funtion.

The Radiation Engineer will be integrated into the EEE Components Engineering Group of the Company.
